Greetings,

Wonderful interview! Thanks for sharing. I believe artists do not have to place a specific color classification in front of the word artist.

Be blessed,
Afrika Abney

With ALL due respect, I believe a human falls into a trap when he/she uses a label to define his/herself and what they do according to their race. A "Black" artist is confined by society's notion of "blackness". When a person sheds him/herself of a false racial identity they become free to do whatever they want to do. It's not a matter of what society says but what the individual says about ones’ self.

Frederick Douglass considered himself just a slave during the beginnings of his life. He saw no other reality until it was revealed to him. This revelation changed his mind and his reality. Of course, the slave masters continued seeing him as a slave, but he didn't.

I don't consider myself a "Black" artist. I am an artist.
