Thanks a lot for your comment. I hadn't thought of the Syd Barrett connection, but that makes perfect sense - that's the line "you're the kind of girl that fits in with my world" that RG uses in "Photokinetoscope".

Another thing that reminded me of an earlier Graham work when thinking about the Erasmus Weathervane was his 'Halcyon Sleep' video, in which the artist lies asleep in the back of a car after knocking himself out on sleeping pills. You watch him, curled up in his pyjamas, rocking to the motion of the car. Like the weathervane, he seems to be thinking about different kinds of movement: that of the (sleeping) mind and the (moving) body.

I've put some more pictures of the weathervane here:

Thanks,
Ben

Great post, Ben. Reading this, I was reminded of references that Graham once cited as possible influences/connections to "Photokinetoscope," and how they might tie into how "these things accumulate":

* LSD discoverer Albert Hoffman's "bicycle trip" (the film portion of "Photokinetoscope" documents Graham's own LSD-induced bicycle ride)
* The filmed document of Syd Barrett's first LSD trip (whose Pink Floyd-era song "Bike" is quoted by Graham in the music portion of "Photokinetoscope")
* Bas Jan Ader's "Fall II" in which he rides a bicycle into an Amersterdam canal (another bicycle reference; also, a loose connection to the Netherlands)
* The "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" scene from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" where Butch, trying to impress Etta, rides his bicycle backwards and ends up crashing into a fence (bringing us back to your last example of Holbein's illustration)

It's all quite fascinating!
