When I was 16 art was my ticket to a better life. At my Magnet high school I was encouraged to study a wide-range of artistic disciplines, i.e. drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and textiles. In my senior year I explored computer graphics, i.e. two-dimensional (digital) illustrations. I excelled academically with a 3.6 gpa. Also, there was the Governor's School for the Arts, NAACP's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) and Pratt National Talent Search. At Pratt I won a third place partial scholarship in Art and Design and the first place full tuition scholarship in Computer Graphics. Without these opportunities I would have been able to attend an art college and would have lost my motivation to do well in school.
